BRISTOL, Conn., Sept. 15 (UPI) -- ESPN anchor Hannah Storm had strong words for the National Football League about its recent abuse scandals to close Sunday morning's edition of SportsCenter.
"One of my daughters has her first fantasy football team this season, but at breakfast this week, instead of discussing how her team was doing, we watched the Ray Rice video play out again in all its ugliness," Storm began.
Storm says her daughters could not understand why any man would hit a woman nor why Rice isn't behind bars. Storm says she discussed the ongoing controversy with her daughters openly and the NFL owes its fans the same treatment
"What does all of this mean to the future? What does it mean for female fans whose dollars are so coveted by the NFL," Storm asks, citing studies that estimate 45 percent of NFL fans are women.
"Are we supposed to compartmentalize everything that's happening, are we supposed to simply separate a violent game on the field with violent acts off the field? What exactly does zero tolerance mean to the NFL ... What exactly does the NFL stand for?"
