Jags put finishing touches on roster, waive four

The Jacksonville Jaguars waived four players on Saturday and received a roster exemption for suspended wide receiver Ace Sanders to reach the NFL's mandated 53-man roster limit.

The Jags released safety Sherrod Martin, cornerback Jamell Fleming, wide receiver Kerry Taylor and linebacker Nate Stupar.

Sanders, meanwhile, will be sidelined for the first four games of the regular season for violating the league's substance-abuse policy. He was the team's second-leading receiver last season as a rookie with 51 catches for 484 yards and one touchdown.

Other players previously released on Friday were center Mike Brewster, guard Drew Nowak, defensive end Gerald Rivers, quarterbacks Ricky Stanzi and Stephen Morris, wide receiver Chad Bumphis, fullback Eric Kettani, offensive tackle Cody Booth, defensive lineman DeAndre Coleman, defensive tackle Ricky Havili- Heimuli, safety Craig Loston, kicker/punter Kasey Redfern. tight end D.J. Tialavea and linebacker Marcus Whitfield.

Veteran wide receiver Tandon Doss (ankle) and rookie cornerback Rashaad Reynolds (hand) were placed on injured reserve after suffering injuries in the club's preseason finale against Atlanta.

Meanwhile, first-year tight Brandon Barden (groin) was waived/injured

Jacksonville also announced that rookie guard Tyler Shatley, who was set to be waived, remains on the current roster.

The Jaguars will open their regular season on Sept. 7, when they visit the Philadelphia Eagles.
