CHICAGO, Aug. 25 (UPI) -- Chicago Bears starting quarterback Jay Cutler has pledged $30,000 to Chicago-area programs after the South Side's Jackie Robinson West baseball team represented the United States in the Little League World Series.
Through the Jay Cutler foundation, the former Pro Bowl quarterback has pledged $15,000 to Jackie Robinson West and an additional $15,000 to underprivileged Chicago youths with diabetes in the Little League team's name.
In 2008 -- the same year he earned a spot in the Pro Bowl -- Cutler was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes and now requires daily insulin shots.
Each member of Jackie Robinson West will also receive an autographed Cutler jersey and will join the quarterback on the opening broadcast of his local post-game radio show after the Bears' Sept. 7 game against EJ Manuel and the Buffalo Bills.
Jackie Robinson West lost the Little League World Series final 8-4 to the Asia-Pacific Region champions from South Korea.
