Tim Shaw reveals he has ALS in Ice Bucket Challenge video

According to Forbes, Tim Shaw is the fourth NFL player in the past seven years to be diagnosed with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease.

MEMPHIS, Aug. 21 (UPI) -- Former Tennessee Titans linebacker Tim Shaw announced he was recently diagnosed with ALS Wednesday as he accepted the viral Ice Bucket Challenge.

"A year ago, I was playing football. I have recently been diagnosed with ALS. I'm here today to stand up and fight this disease," said Shaw in a video posted to the Tennessee Titans website.

According to Forbes, Shaw is the fourth NFL player in the past seven years to be diagnosed with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease.

The Center for Disease Control (CDC) says NFL players are four times more likely to die from ALS. The latest numbers from the ALS Association shows they have received $35.1 million in donations.
