The New York Mets designated outfielder Chris Young for assignment after Friday's 5-4 win in Philadelphia.
The move opened a roster spot for the promotion of center fielder Matt den Dekker from Triple-A Las Vegas. Den Dekker, who turns 27 on Sunday, was raking for the 51s, leading the Pacific Coast League with a .334 batting average.
Den Dekker struggled with the Mets earlier this season, hitting .156 (7- for-45) in 17 games.
Young, 30, hit .205 with eight homers and 28 RBI in 88 games.
