Blue Jays even series with win against the Orioles

Drew Hutchison gave up one run on one hit over 8 2/3 innings, helping the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Baltimore Orioles, 5-1, in the second test of a three-game series.

Drew Hutchison gave up one run on one hit over 8 2/3 innings, helping the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Baltimore Orioles, 5-1, in the second test of a three-game series.

The only hit Hutchison allowed was a solo homer to Chris Davis in the second inning. Hutchison (8-9) retired the next 22 batters he faced before walking Nick Markakis with two outs in the ninth.

Casey Janssen was called upon to get the final out of the contest. Hutchison struck out eight and walked one.

Jose Bautista went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer and three RBI for the Blue Jays, who snapped a four-game skid and moved within four games of Baltimore for first place in the AL East.

Baltimore starter Wei-Yin Chen (12-4) saw a five-start winning streak come to an end, losing for the first time since June 28. He gave up four runs on eight hits with six strikeouts over five innings.
