BUENOS AIRES, July 30 (UPI) -- Argentinean soccer player Carlos Tevez's father was released Tuesday after being kidnapped in Buenos Aires.

Segundo Tevez was driving his vehicle Tuesday morning in the Moron district near the capital when he was abducted. The identity of his assailant wasn't reported.

The striker, who plays for Juventus in Turin, Italy, had intended to return to his home country after hearing about the incident.

The team released a statement saying Carlos Tevez would remain in Turin after learning his father was safely released.

The athlete took to Facebook to announce the good news.

"Thank you all for the support as always. I tell you that my father is well, safe and sound. This is the most important!" he said.
