Ehrhoff, 31, had seven years remaining on a 10-year, $40 million contract that carried with it an annual $4 million cap hit. The deal was front-loaded, with him making $10 million from 2011-12 and $8 million between 2012-13.

According to capgeek.com, the German will get $857,143 a year over the next 14 years in the buyout, which won't count against the Sabres' cap.

Ehrhoff posted 16 goals and 71 assists in 192 games with the Sabres.

Buffalo purged forward Ville Leino's contract with its other compliance buyout on June 18.
