The Colorado Rockies recalled pitcher Christian Friedrich from Triple-A Colorado Springs to start Saturday's game against Milwaukee.
The lefty will take the big league mound for the first time since 2012.
He was 5-8 with a 6.17 earned run average for the Rockies in 2012 before a back injury. So far this season at Colorado Springs, he has posted a 1-8 record with a 7.89 ERA in 13 starts.
The Rockies also transferred Michael Cuddyer, who has a non-displaced fracture of his left shoulder socket, to the 60-day disabled list. The 2013 National League batting champion is expected to be out 6-to-8 weeks.
In addition, Colorado selected the contract of pitcher Wilton Lopez, who has allowed eight runs in 6 1/3 innings in four appearances for the Rockies this season.
To make room on the roster, the club optioned first baseman Kyle Parker and pitcher Chris Martin to Colorado Springs.
