Delaware Park's new racing secretary, Jerome "Jed" Doro, has the responsibility this year of putting together the field for the $750,000 Delaware Handicap (Del 'Cap) on July 12.
The 1 1/4-mile main track stakes for older fillies and mares has seen its share of champions come through on their way to winning Eclipse Awards and Breeders' Cup races.
Last year, Royal Delta claimed her second straight Del 'Cap for trainer Bill Mott and Doro is seeking the Hall of Fame trainer's help again.
"We're hoping we can get the same group of horses. We're hoping we can get Mr. (Bill) Mott back with one of his two nice fillies," Doro said, "either Grace Hall a previous (Delaware) Oaks winner or Close Hatches the Apple Blossom winner. We'd love to have one of them or both would be more fantastic.
"Mr. (Gary) Hartlage is looking at us big time with On Fire Baby and we have Mr. (Todd) Pletcher saying Princess of Sylmar is looking at us. We're hoping we get the strong four or five of those and get a couple local ones and another nice group of mares show up, hopefully July 12."
A Del 'Cap with a starting field of recent Ogden Phipps Stakes winner Close Hatches, La Troienne Stakes champ On Fire Baby, Phipps runner-up Princess of Sylmar and Fleur de Lis winner Molly Morgan will be frosting on the cake for Delaware Park's young but knowledgeable racing secretary Jed Doro.
