Milwaukee Bucks 2014 Draft Preview

June 18, 2014 at 2:22 PM   |   Comments

While tanking was a subject all season long, the Milwaukee Bucks finished with the worst record in the NBA. Problem was, they weren't tanking.

The Bucks had playoff hopes at the beginning of the campaign, but it turned sour quickly. With that worst record, Milwaukee didn't get the No. 1 pick, but had to settle for No. 2.

In this draft, that's adequate.

The Bucks will get a future All-Star with that second pick. A lot, obviously, will be determined by what the Cleveland Cavaliers do at the top, but the Bucks will get a prize.

If Cleveland takes Joel Embiid from Kansas, the Bucks' options are Andrew Wiggins, Embiid's college teammate, or Duke's Jabari Parker.

If the Bucks still, foolishly perhaps, believe they can win earlier than expected, Parker makes the most sense. He's the most NBA ready, but Milwaukee could use a superstar to pair with last year's first-round pick, Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Parker is a star, but Wiggins may shine brighter. They'd also love to get Embiid, but he seems more likely Cleveland bound. Wiggins hasn't appeared overly happy about getting drafted by the Bucks, and Parker is from Chicago, which is not terribly far from Brew City.

No matter what, the Bucks will get a blue-chipper. The decision will be a tough one, especially if Embiid does somehow fall.

With three second-round choices, Milwaukee can maneuver, or stock pile some shooters, or foreign prospects.
