By The Sports Network June 17, 2014 at 3:03 PM

Portugal defender Fabio Coentrao has been ruled out for the remainder of the World Cup after suffering a thigh injury in the nation's loss to Germany on Monday.

Coentrao was forced out of the match after 65 minutes with a "second grade tear of the adductor longus muscle in the right thigh," according to the Portuguese Football Federation.

Striker Hugo Almeida suffered a hamstring tear in the match while goalkeeper Rui Patricio sustained a slight tear in his thigh, but both players are expected to return to action before the close of the tournament.
