Haas to undergo shoulder surgery

Tommy Haas will miss the remainder of the 2014 tennis season because of a right shoulder problem that will require surgery.

Haas hasn't played since the French Open, when he retired from his first-round match against Jurgen Zopp because of the injury. He pulled out of last week's tournament in Halle, an event he won in 2009 and 2012.

The 36-year-old native German lives in the United States. He has battled injury problems in the past and is a two-time winner of the ATP World Tour's Comeback Player of the Year.

Haas, a 15-time tour winner, first won the award in 2004 after returning from rotator cuff surgery on the same shoulder. He then captured the honor again in 2012 after coming back from hip and elbow procedures.

A two-time winner 2013, Haas reached the final at the Zagreb Indoors in February and lost to Marin Cilic. He also advanced to a pair of semifinals in his shortened 2014 campaign.
