Veras was released by the Chicago Cubs earlier this month after going 0-1 with an 8.10 ERA in 12 games. The right-hander lost the closer's job after blowing two saves in April.

The 33-year-old Veras started the 2013 season with the Astros. He recorded a 2.93 ERA and 19 saves in 43 innings before being dealt to the Detroit Tigers. Veras finished with a 3.20 ERA with the Tigers.

Veras is 19-23 with 26 saves and a 3.99 ERA in 406 career games with the Yankees, Indians, Marlins, Pirates, Brewers, Astros, Tigers and Cubs.

Fields is 1-4 with two saves and a 5.93 ERA in 28 relief appearances this season.

Clemens is 0-1 with a 5.16 ERA in 11 trips out of the bullpen for Astros this season.
