Chrome became the 13th horse in the last 36 years to capture the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes but fall short of sweeping all three legs of the Triple Crown.

His jockey, Victor Espinoza, has now ridden two of those horses, also failing aboard War Emblem in 2002.

Affirmed in 1978 remains the sport's last Triple Crown winner.
