Wiggins might miss Tour de France again

Bradley Wiggins might miss the Tour de France for a second straight year, but the 2012 champion said it's not because of an injury.

Wiggins was unable to defend the title last year because of health issues and Team Sky teammate Christopher Froome became the second British rider to win cycling's most prestigious event.

With Froome set to defend this year, Wiggins told the BBC that he probably won't be selected for the team that rides in France this summer. The two are set to ride in separate Tour de France tune-up races -- Froome at the Criterium du Dauphine and Wiggins at the Tour de Suisse.

While the makeup of the team for the Tour de France hasn't yet been decided, Wiggins said he might only be selected if Froome suffers an injury at the Dauphine.

"If he crashes, there'd still be a chance I could come into the team," Wiggins told the BBC. "As it stands, all being well, Chris staying fit and healthy that's the team that'll roll out."

Wiggins won the Tour of California earlier this year and is a three-time Olympic individual gold medal winner.
