Dodgers place C Ellis on DL

The Los Angeles Dodgers placed catcher A.J. Ellis on the 15-day disabled list Monday, retroactive to Sunday, with a right ankle sprain.

After undergoing left knee surgery on April 8, Ellis was activated from the DL on May 14, but appeared in just eight games before injuring his ankle against the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday.

To replace Ellis on the roster, the Dodgers recalled catcher Tim Federowicz from Triple-A Albuquerque.
