Stepan suffered the injury early in the first period of the Rangers' 3-2 overtime loss to the Montreal Canadiens in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference finals. Without the puck, Stepan was hit at the defensive blue line by Montreal's Brandon Prust, who didn't receive a penalty on the play.

"Well, he can't do that, obviously, what he did there, but we'll let the league handle that," said Rangers head coach Alain Vigneault after the game.

Despite the broken jaw, Stepan remained in the game for the remainder of the contest.

Stepan has three goals and eight assists in 17 games this postseason. In 82 regular-season games, he had 17 goals and 40 assists.

The Rangers host Montreal in Game 4 on Sunday.
