Halak, who was acquired from the Washington Capitals on May 1 in exchange for a fourth-round pick in the upcoming draft, is suiting up for his fourth team in two months. He was traded from St. Louis to Buffalo on March 1 as part of the deal that sent goaltender Ryan Miller to the Blues, then was shipped to America's capital four days later without playing a game for the Sabres.

The 29-year-old native of Slovakia compiled a record of 29-13-7 with a 2.25 goals-against average in 52 games with the Blues and Capitals this season. He has also played for Montreal and owns a career mark of 144-85-29 with a 2.38 GAA and 30 shutouts in 272 NHL games.

Halak, selected by Montreal in the ninth round of the 2003 draft, was set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer.

Also Thursday, the Isles announced they will retain their first-round selection and transfer their first-round pick in 2015 to the Buffalo Sabres.
