CHARLOTTE, N.C., May 18 (UPI) -- NASCAR driver Jamie McMurray edged out Kevin Harvick in the Sprint All-Star Race to take home $1 million.

The race, held Saturday at the Charlotte Motor Speedway, began with a battle between McMurray and Carl Edwards in the 10-lap shootout.

"As a kid, that's what you grow up wanting to do, to have a shootout like that and have the possibility to race for 10 laps (for a million dollars)," McMurray said.

Matt Kenseth came in third, followed by Dale Earnhardt. Jr., Edwards and Jimmie Johnson.

"Carl got a little bit of a jump on me but I was able to hang onto his quarter panel," McMurray said. "When we got to 1 and Turn 3, I said, 'the heck with it, it's for a millon bucks, if we wreck, it's not that big a deal.' It's so cool to come out on top of that."

"My little boy, when I woke up this morning, he asked what we were going to do today, and he said, 'I'm going to play in my sandbox,'" McMurray said. "He said, 'what are you going to do, Dad?' I said, 'I'm going to race for a million bucks, Carter.' It's so cool that we were actually able to win."
