Astros add P Farnsworth

The Houston Astros signed veteran reliever Kyle Farnsworth on Saturday.

Farnsworth, 38, was outrighted to the minors by the New York Mets earlier this week, but he refused the assignment and elected free agency.

The right-hander had a 3.18 ERA and three saves while tossing 17 innings for the Mets this season.

Pitcher Paul Clemens was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City to make room for Farnsworth on the active roster.
