The 6-foot-2, 330-pounder was a 2013 preseason All-America selection, but had his season limited to eight games due to a knee injury.

For his career, Nix recorded 123 tackles, 14 tackles for loss and 2 1/2 sacks as one of the nation's top run-stoppers.

The Texans also signed six other draft picks Friday, including fourth-round quarterback Tom Savage. Defensive end Jeoffrey Pagan, running back Alfred Blue and fullback Jay Prosch -- all sixth-round choices -- were also signed, as were a pair of seventh-rounders -- cornerback Andre Hal and safety Lonnie Ballentine.

Terms of the contracts were not disclosed.

Finally, the Texans also announced the signings of undrafted free agents: linebackers Jason Ankrah, Max Bullough, Terrance Lloyd, Chris McAllister and Chris Young; kicker Chris Boswell; defensive linemen Austin Brown, Tyrone Ezell and Sullivan Grosz; tight ends Chris Coyle and Anthony Denham; offensive linemen Matt Feiler, James Ferentz, Kevin Forsch, Chris Martin and Bryan Witzmann; and wide receivers Travis Labhart, Anthony McClung and Nathan Slaughter.
