Marlins sign Wolf

The Miami Marlins signed veteran pitcher Randy Wolf to a one-year contract prior to Wednesday's series finale against the Dodgers.

The 37-year-old Wolf had been pitching for Triple-A Reno in the Diamondbacks' system. The left-hander was 5-1 with a 4.50 ERA in six starts this season.

Wolf is 132-117 with a 4.20 ERA in 376 career games (368 starts) with the Phillies, Dodgers, Padres, Astros, Brewers and Orioles. He last pitched in the majors in 2012. After the 2012 season, Wolf underwent his second Tommy John surgery and missed all of 2013.

Miami also optioned pitcher Dan Jennings to Triple-A New Orleans, designated pitcher Henry Rodriguez for assignment and selected the contract of pitcher Anthony DeSclafani from Double-A Jacksonville.

DeSclafani will make his MLB debut against the Dodgers on Wednesday night. He began this season at Jacksonville and was 3-4 in eight starts with a 4.19 ERA.

The Marlins are trying to deal with the loss of staff ace Jose Fernandez, whose 2014 season has been cut short thanks to what's been diagnosed as a ligament tear in his right elbow.
