Hanrahan is coming off Tommy John surgery performed last May while with the Boston Red Sox. He appeared in just nine games for Boston last season, earning four saves with a record of 0-1 and a 9.82 ERA.

The 32-year-old right-hander signed with the Red Sox as a free agent after two solid seasons as a closer for the Pittsburgh Pirates. He converted 76 saves in 84 opportunities during the 2011 and 2012 seasons with Pittsburgh, earning All-Star nods each year.

Hanrahan owns a career record of 22-18 with 100 saves and a 3.85 ERA in 362 games, all but 11 as a reliever, during a seven-year career with Boston, Pittsburgh and Washington.
