Justin Upton smacked a three-run homer in the first inning to lead the Atlanta Braves to a 5-4 win over the Cincinnati Reds in the opener of a three-game set.

Freddie Freeman went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, Evan Gattis had two hits and an RBI and Jason Heyward drove in a run for the Braves, who saw starter Ervin Santana (3-0) surrender four runs on nine hits over 6 2/3 innings, while fanning seven.

Craig Kimbrel picked up his seventh save of the season. Despite allowing the first two batters to reach base, Kimbrel fanned the next two and got Joey Votto to ground out to end the game.

Votto picked up a pair of hits and an RBI, and Billy Hamilton knocked in a run for the Reds, who had a three-game win streak broken.

Homer Bailey (1-2) took the loss as he was knocked around for five runs on nine hits through six innings.
