Yanks' Beltran captures AL Player of the Week honor

New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - New York Yankees outfielder Carlos Beltran has been named the American League Player of the Week for the period ending April 13.

Beltran hit .423 (11-for-26) with three home runs, four doubles, six RBI and seven runs scored over seven games to earn his 10th career Player of the Week Award, four of which have come in the AL. The veteran switch-hitter led all AL players in total bases (24) and slugging percentage (.923).

The offseason acquisition homered in consecutive games to help the Yankees to back-to-back wins over the defending World Series champion Boston Red Sox over the weekend, belting a two-run shot in Saturday's 7-4 victory and adding another two-run blast in Sunday's 3-2 triumph.

Also nominated for this week's award were Jose Abreu, Adam Eaton and Alexei Ramirez of the Chicago White Sox, Minnesota's Jason Kubel, Oakland's Josh Donaldson and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim pitcher C.J. Wilson.
