Phillies' Burnett will pitch through hernia injury

Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - Philadelphia Phillies pitcher A.J. Burnett plans to pitch the rest of the season with an inguinal hernia, according to MLB.com.

Burnett received a cortisone injection Monday and is scheduled to start Wednesday against the Braves. The 37-year-old pitcher will need surgery at some point.

The right-hander exited Friday's start in the fifth inning due to groin soreness. He is 0-1 with a 3.94 ERA in three games this season, his first with the Phillies.

Cole Hamels pitched with the same injury in 2011 before having surgery in the offseason.
