Royals' Infante avoids major injury

Kansas City, MO (SportsNetwork.com) - The Kansas City Royals announced on Tuesday that starting second baseman Omar Infante avoided major injury after being hit in the face with a pitch on Monday night.

Infante will not miss a significant amount of time despite being hit on the left side of his face by a Health Bell 89 mph change-up during Monday's 4-2 win over Tampa Bay.

Infante received six stitches to close a laceration and tests revealed he did not suffer a concussion, but did sprain the right side of his jaw.

The immediate plan is to evaluate him over the next two days and likely make a decision on the disabled list by Thursday.

Infante is batting .348 in six games this season.
