New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Horse racing writer and editor Steven Crist suffered a cardiac arrest Sunday at home and is listed in critical but stable condition.

The Daily Racing Form reports that Crist, the publication's publisher, suffered the cardiac arrest at his home in Hempstead, Long Island. The 57- year-old Crist was taken in critical condition to a hospital. On Saturday he attended the Wood Memorial at Aqueduct.

In 1998, Crist was part of a group that purchased the Daily Racing Form. When the newspaper was later sold Crist remained as publisher emeritus and columnist.

Well known as a handicapper, Crist has written several books, including his autobiography "Betting on Myself." He served as a vice president of the New York Racing Association from 1994-97.
