Bayern's Shaqiri set to miss United clash

Munich, Germany (SportsNetwork.com) - Bayern Munich midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri is set to miss Wednesday's Champions League quarterfinal clash with Manchester United due to a muscle injury.

The Switzerland international suffered an injury to his right thigh during Bayern's 1-0 loss to Augsburg on Saturday. The 22-year-old was replaced by Mario Goetze before receiving an examination from Bayern team doctor Hans- Wilhelm Mueller-Wohlfahrt, who confirmed the news of Shaqiri's injury.

"The FCB chief medical officer diagnosed a badly torn muscle in the right thigh," read a statement on Bayern's official website. "Shaqiri will be sidelined until further notice."

Bayern's midfield options have been limited ahead of Wednesday's second leg. Bastian Schweinsteiger and Javi Martinez will miss the return match due to suspension from the 1-1 draw at Old Trafford in the opening leg, while Thiago Alcantara is not expected to return before May after the Spaniard sustained a knee injury in Bayern's 3-3 draw with Hoffenheim in late March.
