Coastline has final Blue Grass workout

Lexington, KY (SportsNetwork.com) - Coastline, third in the Spiral Stakes last month, put in his last workout Friday morning ahead of the $750,000 Blue Grass Stakes at Keeneland on April 12.

Trained by Mark Casse, Coastline and jockey Stewart Elliott went five furlongs in 1:00 2/5.

"It was a nice, easy work without much gallop out, which is what we normally do," Casse said. "I thought it was good; just what the doctor ordered."

Coastline, owned by John Oxley, lost by a head to We Miss Artie in the Spiral at Turfway Park on March 22. It was the first time Elliott rode the gray colt and the pair will reunite in the Blue Grass.

Last year as a 2-year-old, Coastline was second in his career debut race at Churchill Downs, but broke his maiden at Keeneland in October and followed later in the month by winning the Street Sense Stakes at Churchill.

Coastline finished his 2013 season with an eighth-place finish in the Delta Downs Jackpot after stumbling at the start. The colt came back in January with a third in the Smarty Jones Stakes at Oaklawn Park and a fourth in the track's Southwest Stakes.

"Maybe he just did not like the track at Oaklawn, at least I hope so," Casse said. "That is a different track and that is why I took him out of there. But he loves Churchill Downs."

The 3-year-old has earned $172,479 with two wins in seven starts.
