Red Sox place Victorino on DL

Baltimore, MD (SportsNetwork.com) - Boston Red Sox outfielder Shane Victorino will start the 2014 season on the 15-day disabled list because of a strained right hamstring.

Victorino was hurt while running the bases during Saturday's spring training finale against Minnesota in Florida and returned to Boston for tests. He hit .250 during 10 spring games.

The 33-year-old veteran batted a career-best .294 with 15 homers and 61 runs batted in last season, his first with the Red Sox.

Boston has recalled outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr. from Triple-A Pawtucket to fill the roster spot. Bradley batted just .158 in 19 spring training games and was one of the last players trimmed from the roster this past weekend.
