Max Pacioretty and Thomas Vanek each scored during a wild third period to help the Montreal Canadiens stay hot by posting a 5-4 victory over the Detroit Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena.

Vanek added a pair of assists and Tomas Plekanec potted a pair of early goals for the Canadiens, winners of four straight and seven of their last eight games. David Desharnais had a goal and an assist, while Carey Price survived a three-goal outburst by the Red Wings in the final frame during a 26-save effort.

Tomas Tatar accounted for two of Detroit's third-period scores and Riley Sheahan recorded a goal and an assist, but Jimmy Howard stopped just 24-of-29 shots as the Red Wings were dealt a third straight defeat and missed out on a chance to improve their playoff chances.
