With the Cubs trailing by three to start the ninth, Dustin Geiger stroked a one-out RBI single to get Chicago within one before Clint Moore's fielding error two batters later allowed Emilio Bonifacio and Geiger to score.

Rubi Silva and Ryan Kalish recorded an RBI apiece for the Cubs, who saw starter C.J. Edwards allow three runs on four hits and three walks over 2 2/3 innings.

Gabriel Quintana and Rene Rivera each drove in two runs, while San Diego starter Andrew Cashner allowed an unearned run on two hits over three frames.
