Former NBA star falsely reported dead

He didn't know he was "dead" until his family and friends sent dozens of messages to check on his well-being.

The New York Post made an egregious error when they reported that a body found by police in Queens was former SMU and NBA basketball player Quinton Ross.

The report from early morning said Ross was found buried on a beach, but it was another man by the name of Quinton Ross. Ross was attending an SMU basketball game in Dallas at the time of the report. He was made aware of his falsely stated death when he woke the next morning to his phone loaded with panicked messages from family and friends.

Ross called his family and friends to reassure them he was, indeed, alive. He also posted on Facebook to, "let everybody know I was OK."

The New York Post has since corrected the error.
