Chicago Cubs flop against Padres

Tommy Medica belted a two-run homer, Seth Smith drove in a pair of runs and the Padres bested the Chicago Cubs 7-1 in spring training Monday night.

Tommy Medica belted a two-run homer, Seth Smith drove in a pair of runs and the Padres bested the Chicago Cubs 7-1 in spring training on Monday night.

Chase Headley also had an RBI for the Padres, whose starter, Eric Stults, allowed just one run on five hits over 5 2/3 innings.

Chicago's only run came in the first frame via Donnie Murphy's run-scoring groundout.

Cubs starter Carlos Villanueva lasted four innings and gave up three runs on three hits and three walks.
