VMI comes out over IUPU-Fort Wayne in CollegeInsider.com tourney

D.J. Covington scored a tournament record 41 points as the VMI Keydets defeated the IUPU-Fort Wayne Mastodons 106-95 in the second round of the CollegeInsider.com Tournament at Cameron Hall.

Covington also collected 10 rebounds for VMI (21-12), which also got 25 points from QJ Peterson. Rodney Glasgow contributed 13 points and 12 assists and Tim Marshall chipped in 12 points.

Luis Jacobo paced IPFW (25-11) with 30 points and 11 rebounds. Joe Edwards added 14 points, Pierre Bland tallied 13, Joe Reed chimed in with 11 and Steve Forbes had 10.

Both teams shot well to start the game. VMI hit on 57.6 percent from the floor in the first half, including a 7-of-12 showing from 3-point range. IPFW hit on 52.8 percent from the floor, but only got 1-of-8 3-point attempts to fall. VMI led 51-42 at the break.

The Keydets held on in the second half by sinking 60 percent of their shots from the field and 17-of-23 at the free-throw line.

IPFW lost despite a 56-40 edge on scoring in the paint.
