CC Sabathia fired seven shutout innings in a strong late spring training tune-up, leading the New York Yankees to a 4-0 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Sabathia yielded just four singles and a walk while striking out seven and lowering his earned run average this spring to 1.59.

Brian McCann gave Sabathia all the support he needed with an RBI double in the first inning, with Brett Gardner and Derek Jeter each knocking in runs in the second.

The Yankees managed just six hits on the evening, two more than the Pirates.

Edinson Volquez worked the first five innings for Pittsburgh, allowing all four runs on five hits and a pair of walks.
