Antonio Campbell made a pair of free-throw attempts with four seconds remaining in regulation to lift the Ohio University Bobcats to a 64-62 victory over the Cleveland State Vikings in the opening round of the CollegeInsider.com Tournament at the Convocation Center.
Campbell finished with a game-high 21 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the floor for Ohio (24-11), which will advance to the second round of the tournament later this week against an opponent to be determined. Treg Setty and Stevie Taylor added 13 points each, while Nick Kellogg handed out six assists.
Bryn Forbes paced the Vikings (21-12) with 20 points, which he accompanied with nine rebounds. Charlie Lee contributed 11 points and six assists, while Anton Grady netted 10 points in 17 minutes of action before fouling out. Marlin Mason posted eight points and nine boards. Forbes connected on 4-of-9 attempts from 3-point range to end the campaign with a single season program record of 81 makes from beyond the arc. CSU as a team also set a new standard with 242 total made 3-point field goal attempts this season.
Ohio took a narrow, 32-31, lead into the intermission after it shot 47.6 percent from the field and converted all six of its attempts at the charity stripe in the opening stanza. The Vikings were held to 40 percent efficiency from the floor in the first half.
The Bobcats cooled off to hit on only 37 percent of their field goal tries, including a 1-of-10 clip from 3-point range after the break. Kellogg broke a 60-60 tie with a made jumper with only 46 left in regulation, but Forbes drew a foul on the other end and made both of his free-throw attempts to even the score at 62. After Campbell put Ohio back in front, Jon Harris missed a jump shot at the buzzer that would have forced an extra session.
Despite the loss, CSU outscored the Bobcats, 30-22, in the paint.
