March 1 (UPI) -- Former Chicago Bulls superstar Michael Jordan made a ton of money last year, more than almost any active professional athlete.

Jordan, 51, made a staggering $90 million in 2013, making him the highest paid retired athlete. He made so much there was only one active professional athlete who made more than him — boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr.

The sale of the Jordan brand of shoes for Nike raked in some $2.25 billion in sales in 2013, and the Air Jordan 10 "Powder Blue" sneaker went on sale this week and earned $35 million in the first day alone.

Jordan never even made this much money during his playing days, which ended more than a decade ago. His highest salary as an active athlete was $80 million in 1997-98.
