Feb. 28, 2014 at 12:11 AM

DALLAS, Feb. 28 (UPI) -- Jamie Benn scored a short-handed goal and had a pair of assists for the Dallas Stars, who took the wind out of the Carolina Hurricanes' sails 4-1 Thursday.

Benn thwarted a Carolina power-play with an unassisted wrist-shot goal at 18:35 of the second period, giving the Stars a 3-0 lead.

Kari Lehtonen made 26 saves for the Texans. Cody Eakin, Brenden Dillon and Tyler Seguin also scored for the Stars, who had won 3-of-4 games heading into the Olympics break.

Eric Staal knocked in the lone Carolina goal with a shot from a tough angle that struck Lehtonen's skate and bounced into the net at 2:42 of the third period to make it 3-1. Eakin followed with an empty net goal to close out the scoring.

Anton Khudobin stopped 30 shots in the loss, which extended Carolina's losing streak to three games.
