Feb. 27, 2014 at 9:58 PM

NEW YORK, Feb. 27 (UPI) -- Cam Talbot took a shutout deep into the third period, finishing with 31 saves Thursday in the New York Rangers' 2-1 victory over Chicago.

Talbot didn't allow a goal until 11.6 seconds were left in the contest as Peter Regin scored to halve the Blackhawks' 2-0 deficit.

The Rangers goalie had to protect the lead one last time, making a sliding left pad save on Patrick Kane just before time expired.

Rick Nash and Derick Brassard scored for New York, which notched a sixth win in seven contests in its first action since the Winter Olympics break.

Corey Crawford stopped 22 shots for the Blackhawks, losers of two straight.
