Feb. 23, 2014 at 1:37 PM

MARSEILLE, France, Feb. 23 (UPI) -- Latvian Ernests Gulbis downed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the final of the Open 13 Sunday, denying the Frenchman a second consecutive Marseille crown.

The second-seeded Gulbis converted just one of his break-point chances but it was sufficient to best Tsonga 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 and improve to 5-0 all-time in ATP Tour finals.

Gulbis won titles last year at Delray Beach and St. Petersburg.

In Marseilles, he defeated Nicolas Mahut in the quarterfinals and top-seeded Richard Gasquet in the semis before knocking off Tsonga, who won last year's event in a final against Czech Tomas Berdych.

Tsonga fell to 10-9 in ATP finals.
