Russia leads Olympic four-man bobsled

SOCHI, Russia, Feb. 22 (UPI) -- Alexander Zubkov drove Russia into the lead Saturday after two rounds of the Olympic four-man bobsled.

The two-run combined time of 1:50.19 gave the Russians a lead of just .04 of a second over a sled from Latvia.

Latvia is the only country that won a medal in the Vancouver Olympics that has not won in these Games.

Germany was in third place, .12 of a second behind Latvia, and the American sled of Steven Holcombe was just .01 of a second behind the Germans.

It will be a close battle, therefore, when the medals are awarded on the final day of the Olympics Sunday.

Zubkov already has a gold medal from these Games in the two-man event. His brakeman in that competition, Alexey Voevoda, is also in the four-man sled along with Dmitry Trunenkov and Alexey Negodaylo.
