New evidence in Pistorius case suggests shooting was not pre-planned

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa, Feb. 21 (UPI) -- South African prosecutors revealed they believe Oscar Pistorius was not wearing his prosthetic legs when he shot and killed his girlfriend.

The state's ballistics expert has backed Pistorius' claim he was not on his artificial legs when he shot Reeva Steenkamp in his home in February 2013, the South African television news channel eNCA reported Friday.

The evidence undermines prosecutors' claims that Pistorius, 27, an Olympic and Paralympic sprinter, cold-bloodedly put on his prosthetic legs, walked into a bathroom, positioned himself against a wash basin and fired at Steenkamp. Pistorius has repeatedly said her shooting was not pre-planned, eNCA said.

Prosecutors also admitted testosterone was not found in Pistorious' home, a reversal of an investigating officer's prior testimony.

The report said evidence contained in documents obtained from the prosecution show Pistorius told security guards the situation at his home was "fine" after the shooting.
