NEW YORK, Feb. 18 (UPI) -- Tony Gonzalez will join CBS's in-studio program during the NFL season and Dan Marino and Shannon Sharpe will leave the show, CBS Sports said.

Gonzalez retired after the 2013 season after 17 seasons as a tight end in the NFL. He played 12 years with the Kansas City Chiefs and the last five with the Atlanta Falcons, making 1,325 catches for 15,127 yards and 111 touchdowns. All are NFL records for a tight end.

"Having just stepped off the playing field, Tony brings a fresh and insightful perspective," said CBS Sports Chairman Sean McManus in a release. "As a future Hall of Famer, we are excited for him to share his knowledge, experiences and opinions with our viewers.

"Tony was one of the most respected and hardworking players in the NFL and a tremendous teammate. We look forward to him bringing these attributes to CBS Sports."

Gonzalez will join James Brown, former NFL Coach Bill Cowher and former NFL quarterback Boomer Esiason for "NFL Today," CBS's game-day in-studio panel.

Marino had been with the CBS NFL programming for 12 years and Sharpe had been part of the team for 10. Both have been inducted in the NFL Hall of Fame.

"Dan and Shannon are true Hall of Famers on the field and in front of the camera," McManus said. "As they pursue other professional opportunities, we thank them for their hard work and dedication and wish them nothing but the best."
