Olympic Medal: Ice Dancing Figure Skating

SOCHI, Russia, Feb. 17 (UPI) -- Meryl Davis and Charlie White won the Olympic gold medal Monday in figure skating ice dancing.

It was the first Olympic ice dancing gold for an American duo since the sport was introduced into the Games 38 years ago.

The silver was captured by Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir of Canada. The bronze went to Elena Ilinykh and Nikita Katsalapov of Russia.

Skaters from either Russia or the Soviet Union had won the gold medal seven of the previous nine times the event had been contested.
