Alabama: Dee Hart, arrested on marijuana charge, is off team

TUSCALOOSA, Ala., Feb. 17 (UPI) -- University of Alabama running back Dee Hart, arrested this past weekend on a marijuana charge, is no longer with the team, school officials said Monday.

A statement issued by the Alabama athletic department to the Tuscaloosa (Ala.) News indicated Hart, 21, hasn't participated in any team activities since the Crimson Tide's 45-31 loss to Oklahoma in the Jan. 2 Sugar Bowl.

"Dee Hart has not been a part of the football team since the bowl game and has not participated in any of the off-season program," the statement said. "Hopefully he will learn from this mistake and continue to work toward completing his degree, which he is on track to do by the summer."

Tuscaloosa Police Department officials told the newspaper Hart was arrested Sunday and charged with giving false information to officers and possession of marijuana, both misdemeanors.

Police said officers responded to a gas station after a clerk complained of a man trying to pass counterfeit money. They alleged Hart gave a false name while being questioned and dropped a bag of marijuana in a police car as he was being transported to jail.

Hart compiled 166 yards on 43 carries during his two years with Alabama.
