SOCHI, Russia, Feb. 13 (UPI) -- Aloyna Khomich scored the game-winning goal midway through the second period Thursday, boosting Russia to a 3-1 win over Sweden in women's Olympic hockey.

Russia thus won Group B of the women's tournament, which earned it a quarterfinal meeting with Switzerland on Saturday.

Only the top two teams from Group B moved on to the quarterfinals while all four of the teams in Group A -- Canada, the United States, Finland and Switzerland -- were assured no worse than a quarterfinal berth before the event began.

Russia outshot Sweden 31-16 to finish 3-0 in group play. Sweden also reached the quarterfinals and will face Finland.

The Russia-Switzerland winner will take on Canada in the semifinals and the Finland-Sweden survivor will face the United States.

Japan and Germany were the only teams not to make the quarterfinals. Germany scored a 4-0 win over Japan early Thursday to finish third in Group B.
