Fregosi, 71, was initially hospitalized last weekend while on a cruise in the Cayman Islands and Tuesday was flown to Miami.
The website reported the six-time all-star player and manager of the California Angels, Chicago White Sox, Philadelphia Phillies and Toronto Blue Jays was removed from life support at at a Miami hospital.
Drafted by the expansion Angels in 1960, Fregosi went on to play 18 seasons, compiling a .265 average with 151 home runs and 706 RBI.
As a manager he went went 237-248, winning the American League West title with the Angels in 1979 and the 1993 NL pennant with the Phillies.
Since 2000 he has served as a special assistant for the Atlanta Braves.
